Convert a CGPA into an approximate percentage using the factor your university or board uses.
How it works
Enter your CGPA and pick the conversion factor. The tool multiplies the two and shows the approximate percentage.
Example
A CGPA of 8.4 with the CBSE factor of 9.5 gives 79.8%.
Frequently asked questions
Which factor should I use?
Use the factor stated by your board or university. CBSE uses 9.5. If none is specified, ask your institution.
Is the result official?
No. It is an approximation. Applications usually accept the university certificate or the formula printed on it.
Can I convert percentage back to CGPA?
Divide the percentage by the same factor. For example, 79.8 divided by 9.5 gives 8.4.
Why there is no single formula
A CGPA is not a percentage. Boards and universities publish their own conversion, and the factor changes between them. The most common approach is percentage = CGPA × factor. CBSE, for example, uses 9.5 for its 10-point scale, while many universities use a different factor or a formula of their own. When a recruiter or scholarship asks for a percentage, use the method your university states on its website or mark sheet.
Worked examples
- CGPA 8.4 with factor 9.5: 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%.
- CGPA 7.6 with factor 10: 76%.
- CGPA 9.0 with factor 9.5: 85.5%.
When you need the result
Application forms for government jobs, scholarships and admissions often ask for a percentage even when your degree reports only CGPA. Attach the university’s conversion certificate or circular if the form allows it. Without one, the tool gives you a sensible estimate to plan against.
Tips
- Ask the examination section for an official percentage certificate if you need to submit proof.
- Do not round up beyond what your university allows.
- Check the minimum percentage in the notification before applying. See the scholarship guide for typical requirements.
This tool gives an estimate for planning. Always confirm final figures and rules with the official notification.
